Contour Elite Features

The tools and functionality to put you on fish!

THE MOST ACCURATE AND DETAILED LAKE MAPS AVAILABLE

Contour Elite is the only computer program that lets you view Humminbird® LakeMaster® high-definition lake maps on your computer.

Humminbird® LakeMaster® maps are the best maps available.  This quality comes from using time-consuming and tedious survey methods with highly trained staff, state of the art equipment, and computer mapping technicians with years of experience producing maps for the fishing industry.  Most other maps were produced using crude techniques or shortcuts not designed to identify fish holding features as precisely.  With LakeMaster®, you can see that small point protruding off of that mid-lake hump, that subtle creek channel ledge, or that small hole in an otherwise featureless flat.

PERFORM AUTOMATED SEARCHES ACROSS THE ENTIRE BODY OF WATER

Search by fish species and time of year, built in criteria, or any combination of custom criteria to highlight the lake’s best locations.

If you’re not experienced interpreting lake contour maps or just want a system to help identify areas on a lake/river more efficiently, Contour Elite can help. After conducting an automatic search of potentially millions of datapoints on a lake, selected areas are highlighted in red on the map.

By using the Fish Species Search, all you have to do is enter the species, time of year, time of day (optional) and information on weather and water conditions (optional), and Contour Elite will search the entire lake for potential areas based on built-in search parameters using known seasonal movement patterns and reactions to environmental conditions.  For example, a late winter largemouth bass search will look for mid-depth points, break-lines, and other structure of the main-lake within close proximity to spawning coves (pre-spawn staging areas).  A fall walleye search at dusk will look for shallow shoreline flats within close proximity to drop-offs or river inlets (good areas to cast/troll at night as walleyes move into these areas to feed heavily).

By selecting a Quick Search for common fishing locations, with one click, you’ll know where to go.  Use the Quick Search for structure at the deep weedline and the system identifies points, ledges, and other structure at a typical deep weedline depth.  These areas are excellent to fish because they can combine cover (weeds) with the fish/baitfish attracting bottom irregularity of structure.

Perform a Custom Search to have full control of a wide range of search parameters, including: lake region, depth, slope (how quickly the depth changes), aspect (the direction the slope faces-important if fish are influenced by wind/water currents or sunlight exposure), structure (points, humps, ledges, inside bends, drop-offs, bases of drop-offs), level of sunlight at various seasons and times of day, and proximity to various locations (shoreline, shallow water, deep water, main-lake, coves/bays, inlets, weeds, and more..).  For example, let’s say you heard from a friend that the walleye have been found on the western side of main-lake, sharply sloping points in 10-14 feet of water.  Plug these criteria into a Custom Search and let Contour Elite search the entire lake for matching locations within a few seconds.

See our screenshots page for examples of search results.

EXPORT LOCATION DATA TO YOUR GPS DEVICE, CHARTPLOTTER, OR OTHER MAPPING PROGRAMS

Mark desired locations on the map and export them in a variety of GPS formats for navigation on the water.

After searching the map and identifying areas you want to fish, add waypoints, lines, or polygon areas over these locations and export them in a variety of formats for uploading into your GPS chartplotters, handheld devices, or mobile navigation app such as Google Maps.  Contour Elite can export GPS data in a variety of formats, including Humminbird, Lowrance, Garmin, Google Maps, GPX, and many more.

IMPORT WAYPOINTS FROM YOUR GPS DEVICE, CHARTPLOTTER, OR OTHER MAPPING PROGRAMS

View your  imported waypoints on the map and store additional details about the locations in the fishing log.

After importing your waypoints, they are displayed on the map, so you can easily see where you fished and why the location was successful.  You can then go in and add information about the fishing at that location.

REALTIME POSITION TRACKING CAPABILITIES

Connect your computer to a compatible GPS receiver to display your current location on the map.

Purchase an in-expensive laptop GPS receiver capable of outputting positional information in NMEA format and turn your laptop into a chartplotter.  Your location and track will be displayed over the Contour Elite map.
VALUABLE LOCATION INFORMATION WITH THE CLICK OF THE MOUSE

Click on any location on the map to get the lat/long coordinates of that spot and to learn other useful fishing-related information.

Information about the clicked location is displayed in the information area, including lat/long, depth, slope, aspect, and structure type.  After clicking on a location, use the Find Similar Areas tool to highlight other areas across the entire lake/river with similar characteristics.
3D VIEWER FOR AN AMAZING PERSPECTIVE OF THE LAKE BOTTOM

Navigate around the lake bottom to get a better understanding of fish holding structure and likely migration routes.

Sometimes it is hard to really visualize the lake bottom by looking at a contour map.  With Contour Elite, you can click on any location on the map to open a 3D view of that area.

With full navigation control (zooming in/out, spinning, and tilting), the underwater world is at your fingertips as you swim around the 3D environment.  Visualize subtle points, humps, ditches, and holes that concentrate fish.  Find routes that fish would most likely take to move from one piece of structure to another, from deep main-lake areas into shallow coves, or from shallow flats to deep basin areas.

If you find an interesting spot, add a waypoint, line, or polygon over that spot right in the 3D viewer and export these areas to your GPS or mobile navigation app.

See the bottom of our screenshots page for examples of 3D views.

FISHING LOG TO CAPTURE DETAILS OF PAST FISHING TRIPS

Keep a record of past fishing trips to serve as a guide for future locations.

Contour Elite’s fishing log is a great way to organize your waypoints and store additional information about the waypoint locations such as date/time, water temperature, wind strength/direction, water clarity, cloud cover, species caught, and lure/presentation used, etc.  Waypoints can be imported from most major chartplotters/GPS devices or the coordinates and information can be entered in a form.

The fishing log has a powerful search feature that lets you research your past fishing trips to find good locations.  If you’ve got an upcoming trip, plug in the date/time and predicted weather conditions and the system will search for fishing log entries matching the criteria and highlight them on the map and fishing log table. Use the find similar areas feature to identify other areas on the lake similar to successful locations you’ve been to in the past to expand your potential fishing areas. Fishing log waypoints can be exported back to your GPS or mobile app for navigation on the water.

FIND SIMILAR AREAS TO PRODUCTIVE LOCATIONS YOU'VE ALREADY IDENTIFIED

If you’ve found a productive pattern, with one click, find all other areas across the entire lake with similar characteristics.

Similar areas can be identified from imported waypoints or just by clicking on the map at a productive location.

How the system defines “similar” can be customized.  Narrow the criteria to limit similar areas to more precise locations, or broaden the criteria to include areas with the same general characteristics.

PRINT THE MAP, LIST OF COORDINATES, AND OTHER LOCATION INFORMATION

Print the  map, including search results, coordinates, and fishing location information and bring it to the water with you.

If you like to bring hardcopies, no problem.  Print copies of all of your planning work and bring them with you.  They can be very handy references while out on the water.
